“Private gathering was spectacular!”

We had a group event that was hosted at this wonderful restaurant. It involved 7 small plates and wine pairings. Having spent the day before tasting at several other wineries, I was surprised that each and every wine we were served was better than all of those others! Fabulous food! I almost can't decide which food I liked the most, the crab cake, the duck, the ravioli, the asparagus, the meatball, the buffalo, or the Panna Cotta. Every bite of every offering was beyond expectations, and almost too good to believe! The restaurant is inside a vintage train car that is beautifully decorated. You feel like you have been transported to another place in time! It was the best!   ~ ww13

7 Wines & 7 Appetizers - Argentina

Sunday, July 30th – 6:30 pm

I have completed the difficult task of tasting numerous excellent Argentine wines with expert Kelsey Malm Devison from MundoVino Imports, and narrowing them down to the 7 best choices for you to enjoy. J  Kelsey will educate you on these great wines from Argentina, and Executive Chef Adam Carr will create 7 delectable appetizers with an Argentinian flair to pair with the wines. Cheers, Aaron.

Catena Vista Flores Chardonnay – 2015. 100% Chardonnay. Family vintners for over 100 years, the Catenas are recognized internationally for their pioneering role in high-altitude viticulture and for leading Argentina’s Malbec revolution. This extraordinary vineyard produces honey and tropical fruit flavors while lending notes of citrus, pears, peaches, and white flowers with a strong minerality and a delicate note of vanilla. The mouthfeel is clean, with a fresh, clean acidity. Paired with mixed greens tossed with a Catena Vista Flores Chardonnay Vinaigrette, topped with citrus pear relish chicken breast and grilled corn.

Catena Appellations Cabernet Sauvignon Agrelo – 2014. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Purple with ruby red reflections. The nose shows intense aromas of ripe red fruit flavors interwoven with spicy notes like back pepper, thyme, and curry with layers of cedar. The mouthfeel is rich with layers of cassis and notes of black pepper, clove, leather and tobacco. The finish is bright and fresh with finely grained tannins. Paired with braised beef and wild mushrooms over toasted chimichurri bread.

El Enemigo Cabernet Franc – 2011. 92% Cabernet Franc and 8% Malbec. Ruby red in color with soft violet tones. The nose has intense aromas and concentrated notes of cassis, ripe currants, and sweet spices – including black pepper and cloves. Integrated oak notes with cedar and vanilla, fresh impact, and excellent structure on the palate. Ripe red fruits with hints of eucalyptus and black pepper This wine has an excellent balance and elegance with a well-structured, persistent finish. Paired with grilled vegetables with a deconstructed chimichurri sauce.

D.V. Catena Tinto Historico Red Blend – 2014. 92% Malbec, 8% Petit Verdot. Don Domingo Vicente Catena, Nicolas Catena Zapata’s father, was famous in the 1930’s for his deep, dark, red wine blend. This blend was sold in the French styled bistros of Buenos Aires – the Paris of South America – as the finest wine from the Mendoza retion. This wine, DV Catena Tinto Historico Red Blend is made as a tribute. Musty, dark fruit and a full body with a long finish. Paired with Carbonada – stew with meat, potatoes, corn, peppers bacon, peaches, dried apricots, pears and green grapes.

Renacer Punto Final Malbec Reserva – 2014. 100% Malbec. A deep, ruby red color with violet highlights. On the nose, a combination of red and black fruit aromas mingle with earthy mineral and floral notes highlighted by sweet spice and vanilla from the French oak. Black raspberry and plum flavors dominate the palate along with more subtle flavors of tangy cherries, vanilla and mocha. The sweet tannins carry through to the long, robust finish. Paired with grilled New York steak with vanilla bean chimichurri.

Catena Alta Malbec – 2013. 100% Malbec. Deep violet in color with indigo highlights. The nose has aromas of ripe red and black berry fruits with notes of violets & lavender, hints of leather, and a touch of spices. Full-bodied and rich, with sweet tannins and a smooth structure, offering multiple layers of blackberries and black currant with hints of licorice, vanilla, and black pepper. The lengthy finish shows beautiful minerality with fine tannins and lively acidity. Paired with ground lamb empanada – nutmeg, onions, carrots, raisins, tomatoes.

Renacer Milamore – 2014. 45% Malbec, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Bonarda, 5% Cabernet Franc. Dark ruby red in color, Milamore offers supple aromas of ripe berries, raisin, and plums. Sensual notes of exotic spices, charcoal, and chocolate are seamlessly layered with the fruit. Full-bodied, rich, and complex, with a long finish beautifully framed by fine-grained tannins. This is a very special wine that will surprise many wine lovers. Paired with dense bandero chocolate cake with dulce de lece.
